About Me
Autobiography
My name is Kyle, and I am a PhD student studying computer science at The University of Georgia. Specifically, my research is in the field of computer vision, but I consider myself a generalist. My bachelor’s degree is from UGA as well, in computer science and mathematics.
I currently have a teaching assistantship with my department, and I lecture introductory computer science courses (usually on Java programming). Visit my departmental website for more information on my academic career.
When I’m not sitting in front of a computer screen or studying, I do enjoy an array of other things. For one, photography is a serious hobby of mine. I won’t talk too much about that here, because I’ve devoted an entire section of my website to photography.
I like getting outside, too. When it’s hot, I like cycling and swimming. When it’s warm, I like mountain biking. When it’s cool, I like running. When it’s cold, I like skiing. Geocaching and travel are fun year-round! I enjoy setting personal fitness goals, and by participating in triathlons and organized bike rides (BRAG events in particular) I find my motivation.
Music is an important part of my life as well. I like playing any instrument I can get my hands on, and I’ve been a part of different concert ensembles, jazz combos, praise bands, and high school/college marching band (on saxophone and mellophone). On Wednesday nights, I have been blessed with the opportunity to play guitar for Green Acres Youth.
To keep from going crazy, I like to stay involved in the community. I have volunteered in different positions with local churches, and served as a board member of Free IT Athens. I also co-founded the University of Georgia Chapter of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). In good weather, I enjoy group bike rides around Athens.
Finally, I believe all of my successes and talents should be credited to God, for without Him, I am nothing. My faith has kept me strong and centered through all of my endeavors.
